Mummified and Forgotten

Last week in Santa Fe, New Mexico the mummified remains of a Chicana teacher, activist, and author; Barbara Salinas-Norman, were discovered in a what appears to be a "trash-dump" of a home. Authorities and family of the woman believe the body has been inside the home for over a year. Over a year ago Barbara was a children's author, writing and publishing stories through Pinata Publications. A publishing company that she founded and designed "to help Mexican American children identify with their culture." Within recent times she became financially broke, according to her friends, at times homeless.
Her body was uncovered by her brother-in-law, Louis Ponce. Ponce stated "that he'd visited the home determined to find her, because it'd been such a long time- over two years- since he had last heard from her." Upon entering he had scented a very strong odor, and shortly after spotted her mummified remains covered in a red cloth, next to a poster. There were debris everywhere in the house, it appeared to look like Salina had been a hoarder.
 In conclusion autopsy's revealed she had died of natural causes.

Child Exploitation On The Rise In India

Recently in New Delhi, India, police arrested a grandfather that reportedly sold his infant grandson on Facebook. However it goes much deeper than that. Around 90,000 children go missing per year on average in India. After police received news of the infant they acted fast in search of him. The mother of the child had contacted police and stated that her father-in-law told her the baby had died and was taken away by the hospital staff. The truth behind the incident was that the grandfather made a deal with a man that planned to smuggle the baby out of the nursing home. The economic status of the families that have missing children often plays a disturbing role in the treatment of the cases. There are many suspicions that members of the families could have sold out their children in order to get money, as desperate as they were or are. The use of children for labor, slavery, sex or adoption is on the rise. However recently a law has past prohibiting any and all forms of human trafficking.
Child protection experts call this the norm. "Out of 10 children who are going missing every hour, only one case is being investigated", "These children are all being put into various kinds of exploitation. And a child who is being sold on Facebook is not even part of this figure."

Toad In Your Green Beans!

Few weeks has passed since Gloria Chubb had cooked her son a nice meal that consisted of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and toad... not even fresh. Just any ordinary day, she set the table and her son sat down and started dishing food on to his plate. After scooping out of the bowl of green beans his mother, Gloria noticed what she described appearing as "moldy bacon", as she came closer to inspecting it, it became apparent that it was a dead toad. She expressed her disgust and concern by heading to the St. Joseph County Health Department. The food service manager explained to her that during the green bean harvest the toad was accidentally picked up and placed in the can of green beans after going through the conveyor line. She was later rewarded with a $50 dollar check and an apology letter from the company.

They murdered a toad, the green beans were infected, everything in the situation was disgusting!

Anonymous Encouraging Anti-CISPA Protests

Through the progress of Cyber Intelligence Sharing and the Protection Act dealing with the House and Senate, online activists and hackers are encouraging anti-CISPA protests. This passed Monday Anonymous affiliated websites planned a blackout. Many are trying to stop the bill from going through. Certain "organizations like the law [CISPA] because it makes it easier for them to share data about hacking without getting in trouble. In the last few months alone Apple, Facebook, and Twitter have all made a public to do about their company's security breaches."  Anonymous points out that CISPA's most recent "iteration" is full of privacy protection related problems. In passing, the legislation would be allowing a private sector to access    private data relating to U.S. citizens. Copyright.gov, the U.S.'s copyright website was involuntarily and  temporarily taken down by the hacker group, Anonymous this last Monday, AKA the Blackout.

Qatar Pledges $500 Mil. to Darfur

DOHA, Qatar is donating $500 million dollars to help Sudan's "war-battered" region, Darfur in rebuilding and boosting the stability after the last decade of violence as part of an international conference.
Qatar's mission is to strengthen peace efforts by the Gulf nation. A donors' conference is now open in the capital, Doha. Darfur has been left devastated since 2003 when rebels took up arms against the government in Khartoum. "Sudan's leader Omar al-Bashir was accused of genocide and war crimes by the International Criminal Court for attacks in Darfur."
Yesterday Britain had pledged $102 mil. to Sudan for the next three years, and half going to Darfur.

Golden Booty Shorts and Prom

A student named Senn from Palisades High decided to dress up in a white dress shirt, bow tie, and golden booty shorts so he could go out in front of the entire student body and rip his black sweatpants off to "twerk" all over the girl he was asking. He said "the point of his performance was to show how incredibly ridiculous it is for a man to gravel at his prospective prom date's feet when this isn't an event that should be taken seriously at all."

The Birthing License

Alcoholic, drug-addicted, child abusing, and just plain irresponsible parents have now led a new bill passed, proposing, actually stating that every adult (18 years of age or older) are now required by law to apply for a license to have kids. If you are seen with young children, police posses the right to ask to see your birthing license, otherwise you must have evidential proof that the child or children do not belong to you. If you do not have a license or any evidence providing proof that they are not yours, such as a birth certificate, the police officer can rightfully arrest you and or can fine you. Similar to having a liquor license and marriage license, you cant get married and or sell liquor if you don't have a license for them.
I guess the government is stepping in even more, now they're the ones deciding the rights you have to your own body. However the positives are that, just maybe population growth will be more controlled:).

Triangle-Shaped Flapjacks Banned, Starting At One School So Far

Recently a school in the UK has banned the cafeteria from serving their students triangle-shaped flapjacks. For those who don't know, flapjacks in the UK are baked "granola bars." The reason they are being banned is quite ridiculous but so is the proposal. One student got poked in the eye during a food fight. To go in further detail, the boy had a triangular shaped flapjack "hurled" at his face by another student. The boy had to be treated by the school nurse for having a "sore eye". The school then decided to take action and ban any triangle shaped foods from being made and fed to the students. Now only rectangular and square-shaped flapjacks can be made, however some critics say that square flapjacks have even more potential to be dangerous, with more pointed sides.

In my opinion maybe the school should focus on preventing food fights instead of the shape of foods. Everyone would benefit more...

Explosives, Weapons, Suicide?

The University of Central Florida recently reported and man in one of the dorms having a gun. When the police entered the premises of the dorm the man was reportedly living in, they found him dead, although unclear where exactly they found his body. From what they investigated the police believe it was a "self-inflicted gunshot wound". Not only did they find his body, but they also found explosives and firearms. However there was no written plan or manifesto that could have led up to the event of the man's death, or any plans for the weapons he was holding. The dorm was then evacuated for further investigation.
Authorities have interviewed witnesses that knew of the man and they confirmed that he was a student. Further reports have stated in more detail that the police found a handgun, an assault weapon, and explosive devices. Counseling is being provided for the dorm residents.

Sharper Mental Skills. Be a Soccer Player

New research has proven that "experienced soccer players have impressive brain functioning and executive-level cognitive skills." Researches at a London university are currently trying to find what makes one soccer player better than another. They started by placing 39 players of different skill and experience in an FMRI scanner. (functional magnetic resonance imaging) The machines had video monitors embedded in them to show video clips of a soccer player dribbling a ball at the person whose brain was being scanned at the time.
The study revealed  that soccer players with more experience and skill were more accurate at predicting the on-screen player's move. Noting that: "the better players showed more activity in the areas of the brain associated with high-level executive functioning and eye-muscle coordination than did the brains of less-experienced players."
Pro athletes process complex visual scenes faster than amateurs.
Daniel Bishop, author of the study done predicts: "we believe this greater level or neural activity is something that can be developed through high-quality training, so the next step will be to look at how the brain can be trained over time to anticipate the moves of opponents."

Government Is Allowing Work On Deadly Pathogens

US scientists are allowed to proceed with research "on creating deadly mutant strains of Avian Flu and other dangerous pathogens."  Before they receive funding, the scientists must outline possible dangers of their research however on the bad side, they can now "freely publish their results and findings to the entire world."
These studies first began a year ago when a Dutch researcher had announced that he had created one of the most dangerous viruses in the world. A group of scientists at the University of Wisconsin had planned to perform a similar research intending to publish what they would find on "the deadliest pathogens".

The National Institute of Health has helped in making matters worse, allowing scientists to:
-Increase pathogenicity in mammals
-Disrupt the induction of a host's innate immunity
-Interfere with the effectiveness of an available vaccine
and -facilitate a viruses ability to evade detection methodologies

Michael Osterholm is an infectious disease researcher at the University of Minnesota and also a member of the U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Bio-security disagreed with the government's decision to allow any of the research work to be published world-wide, which would allow any lab in the world to copy the same work. Supposedly "This kind of research is done to protect humanity against terrorist groups, groups which may or may not have the skills or resources to create these deadly, unstoppable diseases."

Racist Airplane Passenger Slaps a Two-Year Old

On February 8th a man named Joe Rickey Hundley supposedly slapped a crying two-year-old toddler during a flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta. Something is wrong with this man... maybe a little mentally messed up!
BEFORE he assaulted the child, he "reportedly called the boy a nigger." The kid's mother told police her son was crying right before landing and Hundley was sitting next to her and then proceeded to slap the boy in his face, leaving a scratch under one of his eyes. Hundley had said to the woman "shut that (n-word) baby up". Afterwards the child was crying even more, well obviously because a random stranger just hit him in the face.  Other spectators on the plane claimed Joe reeked of alcohol and was stumbling around wasted.
If charged guilty of assault the man could face up to a year in prison.

He also lost his job at AGC Aerospace and Defense company, as the CEO and president released a statement that he is no longer employed with the company because his behavior is  "offensive and disturbing".

Software That Helps Governments Spy On You

"Riot" software was developed by the Massachusetts- based security firm. It's meaning: Rapid Information Overlay Technology. It was designed to "quickly mine various social networks for an individual user's data". It uses previous posts to predict future behavior/ or your location at any given time. This software is capable of many things, one of many being its capabilities to find the top 10 places a person visits most often.
Geotagged photos can be laid out on a map, making it extremely easy for people to track you and see where  you've been.
This spy software has not yet been sold to federal authorities or any law enforcement agencies. If it eventually is, will that be a violation of privacy? Will social security numbers or private financial data be in jeopardy?

Gaza; War On Twitter and The Freedom Of Information Online, Yes or No?

The year of 2012 was considered to be the first war waged through social media networks for the Arabs.
The Gaza war gave way to a glance at how Twitter has become the battle grounds of the region's first "hashtag war."  #PillarOfDefense (hashtag used by Israeli Army) against #GazaUnderSiege (hashtag used by Islamic Jihad expressing worries of the resistance in Gaza).
Tension rose quickly both politically and militarily. This "Twitter War" tracked military progress step by step.

My point: Social media is always hit hard and blamed for "provoking" problems. For example YouTube took a powerful blow to their credibility when a video "The Innocence of Muslims" was uploaded and viewed by the public. Some claimed YouTube was violating its own conditions for content exhibiting bigotry, incitement, and for being offensive and derogatory. "Google (owns YouTube) has fallen prey to the paradox of freedom with the Anti-Islam Movie"

Iran Launches Monkey Into Space

Monday Iran stated they had launched a live monkey into space. The mission was called "A steppingstone to sending humans." There was no confirmation of the launch, but it was reported by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has sent a monkey into space aboard an indigenous bio-capsule as a prelude to sending humans into space,"
The capsule was said to have reached an altitude of 75 miles, The monkey was eventually retrieved alive.

The Nuking program...
Iran first launched a satellite into orbit in 2009, followed by a suborbital launch of another capsule containing rodents, in 2010. Since then they have attempted several times to launch a monkey and finally succeeded.
However Iran's rocket- launching capabilities have created concerns in the U.S., worrying that the technology could be used to create long-range missiles, potentially armed with nuclear weapons.
But Iran claims that its space program is for peaceful purposes only...

Grandfather Manhandles Shark

A "bare-knuckle brawl" between a 6 and a half foot dusky shark and a British grandfather was caught on video by an Australian news crew that happened to be filming along a beach in Queensland.
Tourist; Paul Marshallsea's "of Wales" instincts kicked in when he heard cries of a shark jumping in the water near young children swimming. Paul grabbed the big fish by its tail and yanked it away.
He claims: "My instincts took over," and apparently so did the shark's. The Shark thrashed backwards, almost biting the 62 year-old- grandfathers leg off.
Then Terry Dale (a wildlife expert) jumped in to help steer the shark away from the beach.

Two things:
- After the incident grandpa stated "I know its dangerous but it almost looked beautiful,"
-The coastguard later acknowledged that Paul did a "great job", but then suggested "that people generally  avoid "manhandling sharks.""

Atlanta Police Officer Fails Drug Investigation By Getting Shot

Officer Reggie Robinson was an Atlanta police recruit involved in a drug investigation that went wrong.
Friday night Robinson was dispatched  to investigate possible drug activity when a mysterious man started running from him. Somehow the officer got shot, and moments later he was transported to Grady Hospital. and now in stable condition.
As for the shooter and man that ran; 20-year-old Frank Emmitt Nance, was beat up pretty good but the police would not say how he sustained those injuries. In addition to his face being destroyed he'll face charges that include "aggravated assault against a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine."

Another Hate Crime

This week in Tampa a 24-year-old man; Cameron Mohammed was walking with his girlfriend into Walmart when they were approached from behind by a 25-year-old; Daniel Quinnel, who proceeded to yell racial epithets and fired 20 shots with a pellet gun, Striking Mohammed in the head and neck. Mohammed was armed with a .45 caliber pistol but he chose not to shoot.... hmm

Mohammed was not even Muslim but that didn't matter to Quinnel.

He is also having surgery to remove a couple of the pellets and Quinnel was banned from using any firearms.

... Personally I would have shot him...

A Simple Case For Setting Yourself Up

A 54 year-old Florida man known as Shane Lawrence, was arrested New Years Day after he reported a home invasion and police found him in possession of 110 marijuana plants. 

Mr. Lawrence originally called the police to report that two men had broken into his house and attempted to rob him. Police arrived to inspect the alleged crime and Mr. Lawrence gave them permission to search the premises. At some point the police discovered his spare bedroom or as you could say "grow room".

He was charged with a lot....
